OTAL MOVES PORT OPERATIONS IN AMSTERDAM

OT Africa Line, the West African shipping line, said it will move its port operations in Amsterdam to the USA Terminal a new deepsea terminal and multimodal distribution center operated by United Stevedores Amsterdam (USA).

Vessels on both OTAL's weekly container service and weekly roll-on/roll-off service will call at the USA Terminal every seven days en route to West Africa. The first OTAL vessel to call will be the 'Rokia' on Sept. 2.

The new terminal's features include more than 500 meters of quay, a separate 150-meter jetty for inland water traffic, warehousing equipped with modern loading docks for trucks and trailers, multipurpose cranes, and a fast daily shuttle connecting Amerikahaven to container terminals in Rotterdam, Antwerp and Duisburg.

USA, a member of the Ter Haak Group, is known for its handling of cocoa, coffee and other related products. Those commodities are among OTAL's main European import cargoes from West Africa, said Rachel Bennett, OTAL's marketing manager.

OTAL has used the Ceres Amsterdam Marine Terminal.
