OVERNITE TRANSPORTATION IMPLEMENTS RATE INCREASE

   Overnite Transportation Co. has implemented a general rate increase of about 5.9 percent on all non-contractual U.S. and Canadian rates.

   While the broad increase will be 5.9 percent, effective July 1, specific lane and regional adjustments will ensure Overnite remains competitive in regional markets,' said Pat Hanley, senior vice president and chief financial officer.

   Overnite, based in Richmond, Va., provides less-than-truckload services throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.
