Pacific Coast Council elects Maggie Smith as president

The Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Associations Inc., has elected Maggie Smith president.

Smith, corporate compliance manager for Coppersmith Inc. in Los Angeles, cited “implementation of the new bioterrorism regulations, advance notice requirements for exports, and NVOCC tariff filing and contracting before the Federal Maritime Commission” as issues that PCC members must deal with in 2004.

The council re-elected Barbara Klausman, assistant vice president of James J. Boyle & Co., in Portland, Oregon, as vice president for a second term. Sylvia Scherer, from Rialto International in Seattle, was elected as secretary; and David Enberg, from JE Lowden in San Francisco, as treasurer.

The PCC comprises five West Coast associations of customs brokers and freight forwarders. The PCC’s annual Western Cargo Conference (WESCCON) will be held Oct. 14-17 at the Hyatt Islandia in San Diego, Calif.
