Pakistan joins CSI
The Container Security Initiative, one of the programs receiving extra scrutiny with attention focused on port security and the Dubai Ports World sale, added another partner Wednesday when Pakistan committed to the cargo inspection program.
Pakistan agreed to allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on location to help identify suspicious cargo for pre-loading exams at the Port of Qasim. Pakistani Customs will use X-ray type container imaging technology for inspections, and in a new twist for a CSI operation, will provide live video monitoring to ensure the integrity of the cargo exam process.
