Panama Canal will close westbound lanes in two locks for repairs

The Panama Canal Authority said it will close westbound lanes of the Gatun Locks and the Miraflores Locks for short periods in September for rehabilitation and maintenance work.

The west lane of the Gatun Locks will be out of service for seven days, from 1 a.m. Sept. 1 through 11:59 p.m. Sept. 7, so that rehabilitation work can be performed on 703 feet of tow track on the lock's southwest approach wall and 144 feet of tow track on its southwest sidewall, said Miguel F. Rodriguez, acting maritime operations director of the Authority.

The west lane of the Miraflores Locks will be closed for four days, from 6 p.m. Sept. 1 through 11:59 p.m. Sept. 4, to install redundant seals on miter gates 102 and 103, Rodriguez said.
