Panama hosting Caribbean Shipping Association

Officials from host nation Panama have been updating members of the Caribbean Shipping Association on the plans and benefits of the Panama Canal expansion project during the CSA's annual General Meeting and Conference this week, which is being held in Panama for the first time.

   The annual CSA conference focuses on trends and issues related to cargo and cruise shipping, terminal and port operations, and overall market conditions. This year's conference started Monday and ends Wednesday.

      Much of the focus at this year's conference has centered on canal expansion plans. Panamanian voters will make a final decision'expected to be favorable'in a referendum election October 22.

   At the CSA conference, Panama Canal Authority director of corporate planning and marketing Rodolfo Sabonge observed: 'We are honored to be a part of the CSA conference and to take the opportunity to meet with you and other shipping representatives to discuss the expansion of the Panama Canal and its benefits for Panama, the nations that compose the Caribbean Shipping Association, and for world trade.'
