PANAMANIAN-FLAG TANKER BURNS NEAR SINGAPORE TERMINAL
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said a fire broke out Friday morning in the engine room of the “Onis Pratiwi,” a 959-gross-ton Panamanian-flag tanker, in Singapore’s port waters two kilometers from Pasir Panjang Terminal.
The tanker’s 12 crew members and a harbor pilot abandoned ship. Four fireboats picked up all but one crew member, who was presumed lost.
Singapore’s Police Coast Guard and the MPA said later that the fire was under control, and that marine traffic had been diverted from the area. There has been no report of any oil spill resulting from the incident.
