Park takes over as president of Hanjin as Choi steps down
Jung-Won Park has been appointed president of Hanjin Shipping, as the Korean shipping company said its current president, Won-Pyo Choi, would step down Sept. 30 after less than two years as the head of the company.
Choi is retiring “for health reasons,” Hanjin Shipping said. He recently presented a 208-percent rise in Hanjin’s operating income to 221.5 billion Korean won ($190 million) for the second quarter. Choi will retire after working 38 years with Hanjin Shipping and sister company Korean Air.
He was named president in February 2003, succeeding Chan-gil Kim, who resigned for health reasons.
His successor, Park, is senior executive vice president of sales and marketing at Hanjin. He has 32 years experience in the shipping industry.
Sooho Cho remains chairman of Hanjin Shipping.
Hanjin also promoted Young Min Kim, another senior executive vice president of Hanjin Shipping, to the newly created post of chief operating officer.
