Peace Bridge facilities expansion continues
Workers have begun extending a truck queuing lane and making improvements to traveler processing facilities at the Peace Bridge, a major commercial crossing point connecting Buffalo, N.Y., and Fort Erie, Ontario, the Canadian government and the local bridge authority said.
The construction is part of a three-year, C$42 million (U.S. $33.2 million) effort to expand infrastructure and reduce congestion at the bridge. The first phase in Canada, which included relocation of toll booths to Canada, the construction of a new truck road exiting the customs booths, implementation of a truck staging area and a FAST bypass lane for pre-certified shipments and truckers, and relocation of the Commercial Vehicle Processing Center to the Fort Erie Truck and Travel Center, has been completed. Work on the U.S. side continues with the construction of three new commercial customs booths.
