Peru and Venezuela mend fences
Peru and Venezuela said Tuesday they plan to resume diplomatic relations, ending a diplomatic squabble related to the 2006 presidential elections in Peru.
The Associated Press reported that Peruvian President Alan Garcia and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez agreed to reestablish diplomatic relations within a month.
The dispute started last May when Chavez endorsed the opponent of Garcia, who was a former president running to return to office. Chavez called Garcia a 'lapdog' of the Bush administration, leading then-sitting president Alejandro Toledo to recall the Peruvian ambassador to Venezuela.
Garcia said he also planned to discuss cooperation between the nations in the energy sector.
