Petroleum survey for Port Everglades
The Broward County board of county commissioners approved Wednesday a $542,971 contract between the Port Everglades department and international energy consultant Purvin & Gertz, Inc. to conduct a study of the current and future needs of the petroleum sector at the seaport.
The study is due to last eight months and its aim is to prepare the port’s facilities to meet the petroleum industry’s expected growth in South Florida through 2020 and beyond.
The number of petroleum barrels handled at Port Everglades increased 3.9 percent from 119.1 million barrels in 2003 to a record 123.7 million barrels in 2004, the port said.
