P&O Nedlloyd adds offline software for shippers

P&O Nedlloyd is the latest container shipping line to introduce software to allow shippers to prepare and send shipping instructions offline.

The company’s “offline shipment pack” is a standalone application for personal computers, which enables its customers to complete shipping instructions via their desktop PC, without the need to connect to the Internet.

Like other carriers’ desktop software, P&O Nedlloyd’s software uses e-mail, which is regarded as more widespread among shipping clerks than Internet access.

The system can be used to send shipping instructions and create bookings by reusing common data from previous bookings.

P&O Nedlloyd said the software can reduce costs for shippers by eliminating faxes and improve accuracy.
