P&O NEDLLOYD, FARRELL AND HAPAG FINALIZE U.S./MED SERVICE ROTATION
P&O Nedlloyd, Farrell Lines and Hapag-Lloyd have finalized the port rotation for their joint weekly Famex service between the U.S. East Coast and the Mediterranean, due to commence on Aug. 15.
The service is an extension of the U.S./Mediterranean service previously operated by Farrell Lines before its takeoker by P&O Nedlloyd. The service had an eight-day sailing frequency, now updated to weekly sailings.
The five existing Farrell U.S.-flag vessels in the service are joined by a sixth 1,730-TEU ship, operated by Hapag-Lloyd, the “Vulkan.” A spokesperson for Hapag-Lloyd told American Shipper that the ship will be replaced by the end of this year by a bigger, Hapag-Lloyd owned vessel.
The final revised service rotation is New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Lisbon, Cadiz, Marsaxlokk (Malta), Alexandria, Haifa, Izmir, Marsaxlokk, Naples, La Spezia, Cadiz, New York, Norfolk and Charleston. Additional calls at the port of Salonica, Greece, will be made for relief and military goods.
