P&O NEDLLOYD LOGISTICS BUYS GILBERT COS.

   P&O Nedlloyd Logistics said Tuesday it has acquired the Gilbert Cos., which specialize in expedited cargo shipments, consolidation, less-than-truckload shipments, warehousing and store delivery in the United States.

   “This purchase underscores our commitment to the U.S. market,” said Johan Nanninga, managing director, P&O Nedlloyd Logistics.

   “Gilbert will trade under its own name for the forseeable future,” Nanninga told AS+. “Gilbert’s staff will be made an integral part of P&O Nedlloyd Logistics.”

   The Gilbert Cos. comprises Gilbert East, Gilbert West, and Gilbert Air Cargo.

   Gilbert East and West have warehousing and transportation operations in Chino, Commerce, and Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and at Linden and Woodbridge, N.J.

   Gilbert Air Cargo’s operations are handled at facilities in Hawthorne, Calif., and Elizabeth, N.J.

   P&O Nedlloyd Logistics, which specializes in integrated logistics services, has $200 million in annual turnover and 470 employees. It is part of P&O Nedlloyd, the second-largest ocean container carrier with an annual turnover of $4.7 billion.

   The Gilbert Cos., with a combined $140 million turnover, has a total staff of 240.
