P&O Ports Louisiana, ILA sign agreement
P&O Ports Louisiana and the general longshore workers local 3000 of the International Longshoremen’s Association have entered into a labor agreement concerning P&O Ports’ operations at the new Napoleon Avenue container terminal in the port of New Orleans.
The terminal, which opened Jan. 5, handles container capacity transferred from the port of New Orleans’ France Road berth 5.
P&O Ports Louisiana and the ILA have been working under a 60-day temporary agreement.
The terminal operator said a new labor agreement was necessary due to the introduction of new technology. “We were dealing with issues that had not been dealt with in the past, as this terminal has new equipment, technology, and operations,” said Dave Morgan, vice president of P&O Ports Louisiana.
