POLAR AIR ADDS TWO B747-200s TO FLEET
U.S. freighter operator Polar Air Cargo, after coming to terms with its
pilots, has acquired two B747-200 freighters and retired one of its older
B747-100 all-cargo planes.
Polar has leased the B747-200s, which were recently converted to
freighters by Israel Aircraft Industries based in Tel Aviv.
Polar now operates a fleet of 14 B747 freighters, five of which are
B747-200s. The rest are older B747-100s, which may face payload
restrictions following a Jan. 1 deadline for compliance with Stage 3
federal jet engine noise standards.
Polar, which flies mainly between Asia and the United States, came to a
tentative agreement on a labor contract with its pilots Oct. 2, averting a strike.
