Port Everglades lands South America service from Miami

Port Everglades said Monday it is adding a new service to the East Coast of South America from its Florida International Terminals facility that opened under a new terminal operating company in June.

The weekly USATLAN service, which had been using the Port of Miami for its South Florida call, offers connections to Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Paranagua, and Sao Francisco do Sul in Brazil, as well as Buenos Aires, Argentina. Chilean-based Compania Sudamerica De Vapores S.A. (CSAV), Libra and Montemar operate the service with CP Ships participating on a slot charter basis.

Port officials said F.I.T.'s operations at Port Everglades are anticipated to generate throughput of more than 70,000 containers and one million short tons of cargo annually. The terminal's primary customers are CSAV, CCNI, Libra, Montemar, CP Ships, Hamburg Sud, Hanjin and Zim Lines.
