Port Freeport signs sister port agreement with Puerto Limon
Port Freeport on the Texas Gulf Coast has signed a sister port agreement with Puerto Limon in Costa Rica.
The agreement was signed Wednesday in a ceremony in San Jose, the Costa Rican capital, where Port Freeport officials were on a four-day trade mission sponsored by Procomer, the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Corp.
Officials from the ports said they will focus on attracting more oversized and general cargoes to bolster the existing trade in refrigerated produce between Costa Rica and Port Freeport.
Port Freeport specializes in handling inbound fruit shipments from Central America. That market was bolstered in October when Isabella Shipping started a new weekly service at the port.
