Port of Charleston container volume rises 17% in last half 2004
Container volume at the port of Charleston for the last six months of 2004 rose 17 percent to nearly 1 million TEUs. In the July to December period, the port handled 975,554 TEUs, compared to 836,224 TEUs in the last half of 2003.
The port also reported a 36 percent rise in container volume for December 2004, compared to the same month in 2003, although no exact figures were given.
“The growth was spread among ocean carriers and trade routes, with Asia, the Indian subcontinent and South America representing the largest share of the increase,” the port said.
