Port of Houston builds command center
The Port of Houston opened a new high-tech communication center to assist security operations. The port authority used $2.66 million in federal port security grants to help pay for the $4.35 million facility.
The communications center is designed to coordinate communication between port, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection and other regulatory agencies.
Meanwhile, port commissioners voted to seek bids for a mobile command center to be paid for with a $1.1 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
