Port of Houston closes in advance of Hurricane Rita
The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) has closed 10 public port facilities ahead of Hurricane Rita.
The following facilities ceased operations at 5 p.m. Wednesday: the bulk materials handling plant, Turning Basin terminal, Barbours Cut container terminal, Woodhouse terminal, Houston public grain elevator, Jacintoport terminal, Care terminal, and the Galveston container terminal.
The authority said all non-essential staff have been released from duties until the planned reopening of facilities Monday at 6 a.m.
