PORT OF JACKSONVILLE TOPS 600,000 VEHICLES IN FISCAL 2002

   The Jacksonville Port Authority said it maintained its role as number one U.S. port for handling vehicles, processing a record 615,03 vehicles in its fiscal year ended Sept. 30.

   The port authority broke its own record of 579,924 vehicles handled in fiscal year 2001.

   More than 95 percent of the vehicles moving through Jacksonville's terminals are new passenger cars and trucks. The vehicles include imports and exports, as well as domestic-made and distributed cars that are brought to the port to be 'processed by four automobile processors: American Port Services (AMPORTS), Distribution and Auto Services, Southeast Toyota Distributors Inc. and Mercedes-Benz USA Inc.
