Port of Lagos congestion keeps ships waiting two weeks
OT Africa Line said Thursday that strict customs policies at the Nigerian port of Lagos has resulted in the average waiting time for a vessel to berth stretching to two weeks.
OTAL said vessels that arrived at Lagos Aug. 22 are still in a queue awaiting a berth.
At the same time, Naples-based Grimaldi Lines said it is amending its additional port surcharge for all southbound cargo calling at Lagos from continental Europe to 380 euros ($471) per TEU. Exports from the U.K. port of Tilbury will be subject to a revised surcharge of '260 ($477) per TEU. The revised surcharge is effective Oct. 1.
