Port of Le Havre opens first terminal of Port 2000
The Port of Le Havre on the French Atlantic Coast has opened the first terminal, Terminal de France, of its Port 2000 container complex.
The new terminal will be jointly operated by CMA CGM and G'n'rale de Manutention Portuaire and will have a capacity of 675,000 TEUs a year. Its two 350-meter (1,150-foot) quays will be equipped with six “super-post-Panamax” cranes. It will provide deepwater draft of 14.5 meters (48 feet) to 16 meters (52 feet). There is also option for an additional berth east of the current two.
Terminal Porte Oc'ane is due to open in the second half of 2007. A.P. Moller-Maersk owned APM terminal has been selected along with the Perrigault group to operate the terminal. Like Terminal de France, Terminal Porte Oc'ane has two 350-meter quays with an option for a third berth.
Mediterranean Shipping Co. and the Perrigault group have been selected to operate the succeeding six berths, which “will be completed according to trade growth and operators’ requirements,” the Port Authority of Le Havre said.
After full completion, Port 2000 will provide 12 quay berths each 350 meters long, with a total quay length of 4.2 kilometers.
