Port of Le Havre sees 15% jump in box traffic

   Container traffic at the port of Le Havre rose 15 percent in 2003, to about 1.98 million TEUs.

   The French port said that it enjoyed a continued growth in box transshipment traffic, up 34 percent last year, to 600,000 TEUs. Transshipment now accounts for 31 percent of total container traffic at the port.

   General cargo traffic, including containerized traffic, increased 9 percent in 2003, to 21.9 million tons.

   The port’s total traffic, including all commodity types, bunkers and ship stores, rose 5 percent, to 71.8 million tons, despite a decrease in solid bulk traffic.
