Port of Long Beach posts record monthly TEUs in May
The port of Long Beach, Calif. handled 468,029 TEUs in May, 'the port's highest monthly total ever,' said Art Wong, a port spokesman. That figure reflects an increase of 20.5 percent from the overall total of TEUs in May 2003.
Inbound TEUs for May totaled 242,910, up 23.6 percent over May 2003. The port shipped 84,502 outbound TEUs up 10.3 percent from the previous year, and 140,617 empty TEUs, up 22 percent from the same month in 2003.
For 2004 thus far Long Beach has handled 1.06 million inbound TEUs up 17.4 percent from the first five months last year; 409,088 outbound TEUs up 13.6 percent, and 579,002 empty TEUs up 7.5 percent. The port has shipped a total of 2.05 million TEUs for the five months of 2004 up 13.7 percent from that time in 2003.
