Port of Longview opens industrial rail corridor

The specialized breakbulk handling port of Longview, Wash. has just completed its $21 million industrial rail corridor project. The first Union Pacific Railroad trains carrying more than 225,000 tons of soda ash are loading at the port’s Berth 2 bulk facility operated by Kinder Morgan Terminals Inc.

“For cargo shippers, the rail corridor provides direct access for unit trains, reduces switch yard handling and potential delays, adds additional storage for two unit trains, provides greater operational flexibility for port operations and improves the dispatch of vessels loading bulk commodities,” said the port in a statement.
