Port of Los Angeles gives go-ahead to floating barriers

The Port of Los Angeles said its Board of Harbor Commissioners has voted to spend $2.9 million in Transportation Security Administration Port Security Grant Funds on waterborne security barriers.

The barriers, designed by Siemens Building Technologies, will be placed at key locations around the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles during heightened security times, will provide protection against certain types of attacks, and will form a line of demarcation, the port said. There are 10,000 feet of floating barrier — 5,000 for the port of Long Beach and 5,000 for Los Angeles.
