Port of Los Angeles studies ways to reduce truck traffic
A working group set up by the Port of Los Angeles to study ways to reduce port and traffic congestion officially met for the first time last week.
The 60-member working group includes importers, exporters, steamship lines, terminal operators, trucking companies, distribution centers, labor, railroads, local and state transportation authorities, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, local law enforcement and legislators.
Discussion focused on the need for shippers and carriers to develop a holistic solution that includes consistent terminal operations and distribution networks that will make it feasible to extend gate hours at the port and quantifying the costs of operating during non-peak hours.
