PORT OF PHILADELPHIA ADDS CARRIER
The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority said Oldendorff Carriers Ltd. will initiate regular port calls of its worldwide combination container-breakbulk service at the port's Packer Avenue Marine Terminal, starting in May.
The new monthly service is expected to bring about 100,000 tons of breakbulk and 4,500 containers to the port in 2002, including about 2,000 to 3,000 tons of cocoa beans with each vessel call.
The port authority said securing the service was a joint marketing effort with Astro Holdings Inc., which operates packer Avenue Marine Terminal; Penn Warehousing & Distribution Co., the terminal operator at Piers 78-80 Forest Products Handling Center; and Dependable Distribution Services, which operates Pier 84, the port's dedicated cocoa facility.
