Port of Portland replaces 41-year-old dredge tender
The Port of Portland Board of Commissioners Wednesday voted to spend $2.4 million on a new dredge tender, to replace a 41-year-old vessel nicknamed 'The Don.'
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will reimburse the port for the purchase of the new vessel, which is due to be delivered in 2007, as the port-owned 'Dredge Oregon' maintains the Columbia River's navigation channel under a contract with the Corps. After the new vessel arrives, the port will decommission and recycle 'The Don.'
