Port of Redwood City posts 23.5% cargo increase
The Port of Redwood City, Calif., said Monday it moved 1.1 million metric tons of cargo in its fiscal year ended June 30, a 23.5-percent increase over 2002’s total of 900,000 metric tons.
Cement imports from China to RMC Pacific Materials reached 365,079 metric tons, up 34 percent from 2002.
Pabco Gypsum imported 231,553 metric tons of gypsum, up 14 percent over the prior year.
Those figures suggest that construction industry in the bay area is rallying, said Lewis Miller, port commission chairman.
On the export side, Sims Metas America exported 273,814 tons of scrap metal to the Far East, mostly from old vehicles, an increase of 9 percent over 2002.
