Port of Savannah handles record TEUs in September

The Georgia Ports Authority said the port of Savannah followed two consecutive months of record container volume growth by handling a best-ever 169,756 TEUs during September, up 29.6-percent from the same month last year.

“With the recent addition of two new super-post-Panamax cranes, gate expansions and the conversion of additional storage areas to accommodate grounded container operations, the Port of Savannah is experiencing record growth and expedited delivery times,” said Doug J. Marchand, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority.

In September, the port of Brunswick’s Mayor’s Point Terminal experienced 109 percent growth handling 30,899 tons of cargo.
