Port of Singapore ahead of Hong Kong after two months
The port of Singapore is beating Hong Kong in the race for world’s busiest port as the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore reported the South East Asian port handled 1.76 million TEUs in February, compared to 1.52 million at Hong Kong.
For the year to date Hong Kong’s container throughput is up 3.5 percent at 3.44 million TEUs while Singapore has witnessed 4.8 percent growth to 3.7 million TEUs.
In 2005, the port of Singapore handled 23.2 million TEUs, making it the most productive port in the world, while Hong Kong came in second with 22.4 million TEUs.
