Port of Tacoma’s September box traffic up 21.9%
The port of Tacoma, Wash. handled 216,430 TEUs in September, up 21.9 percent compared to the 177,522 TEUs handled in September 2004.
International inbound containers increased 30 percent to 81,225 TEUs. International outbound containers rose 22 percent to 34,905 TEUs. Empties, meanwhile, rose 20 percent to 50,277 TEUs, while the domestic container volume, to and from Alaska and Hawaii, improved 12 percent to 50,023 TEUs.
For the year-to-date, the port has handled 1.52 million TEUs, up 17 percent from 1.30 million TEUs carried after nine months last year.
