Port of Thamesport adds two silos for U.K. resin importer
The United Kingdom’s Port of Thamesport has added two resin silos for U.K. resin importer, Resin Trade.
Resin Trade imports poliolefins, the resin granules used in the production of plastic packaging such as carrier bags, and various plastic films. The majority of the company’s cargo is transported in
polyethylene-lined 20-foot containers. The resin is then discharged directly into the 100 ton capacity silos and loaded into bulk tankers.
Resin Trade’s first dedicated silo at the Medway facility opened January, 2005. With the additional two silos, Resin Trade’s throughput at Thamesport is expected to rise 50 percent over the next 18 months.
“We are extremely encouraged by the growth of Resin Trade’s business through Thamesport. We are committed to providing the right kind of facilities to suit our customers’ needs, and Resin Trade’s continued investment in Thamesport reinforces our position as a leading provider of on-port storage and logistics solutions,” said Chris Lewis, chief executive officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Ltd., owners of Thamesport.
