PORT SECURITY LEGISLATION HEATS UP ON CAPITOL HILL
On Thursday morning, U.S. lawmakers will meet in both the Senate and House to discuss measures'on how to enhance security in U.S. ports and waterways.
At 9 a.m., Sen. Ernest F. Hollings, D-S.C., chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, will testify before the Senate Government Affairs Committee to defend and promote a bill, which he sponsored, to improve seaport security.
Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta and Coast Guard Commandant Adm. James Loy will testify'before the House Transportation Committee at 10 a.m. to outline their recommendations to enhance port security.
