Ports between Gulfport, Miss. and St. Marks, Fla., remain closed
The U.S. Coast Guard reported Sunday that all ports between Gulfport, Miss., and St. Marks, Fla., remain closed to maritime commerce as the agency, along with its local and state counterparts, accesses the damage from Hurricane Ivan.
Cargo ports affected by the agency’s closure include Gulfport and Pascagoula, Miss.; Mobile, Ala.; and Pensacola and Panama City, Fla. The agency said Mobile, Pensacola and Panama City suffer from “multiple vessels aground, sunk or destroyed.”
The Coast Guard is conducting pollution and navigation assessments in the hurricane-damaged ports. The only vessel traffic allowed to operate in the ports is that involved in clean-up activities.
