Proposals sought for Red Hook Container Terminal use

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said Thursday it is seeking proposals for maritime use of the Red Hook Container Terminal on Piers 9-11 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The port authority said the 80-acre facility would be available May 1, 2004, for leasing for a minimum of five years.

“Through this process, we hope to identify businesses that can maximize the economic potential for maritime operations to function and thrive on these piers along the Brooklyn waterfront,” said Anthony R. Coscia, chairman of the port authority.

The lease of American Stevedoring Inc., the current operator of the Red Hook Container Terminal, expires in April 2004.
