PSA in talks to build new port in Panama

Singaporean port group PSA is competing with A.P. Moller-Maersk, the P&O group and China Ocean Shipping Co. for a project to build a $600 million port in Panama, Reuters reported Panamanian port officials as saying.

PSA would not comment on the project, other than confirming it has been invited by the Panamanian government to participate in a “mega-port project” in the central American country.

Julio Fabrega, national director of Panama’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said the Panamanian government will award the port project by the fourth quarter of this year, according to wire services.

“We are establishing ways of cooperating with PSA, and we would like to see PSA cooperating with Panama in the very near future,' the Singapore newspaper Business Times quoted Panama’s Trade Minister Alejandro Ferrer as saying.
