PSA TO INSTALL PORT ELECTRONIC SYSTEM IN SOUTH AFRICA
Portnet.com Pte Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore-based port operating group PSA Corp., has signed an agreement with the National Ports Authority of South Africa to implement and operate a port electronic system in South Africa.
PSA said that the deal is worth more than S$8 million (U.S.$5 million).
Under the agreement, Portnet.com will implement its proprietary port community system at six ports in South Africa — Cape Town, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, Richards Bay and Saldanha.
Information will be accessible via virtual private network, electronic data interchange or browsers.
“Through this partnership with the National Ports Authority of South Africa, PSA will be bringing close to two decades of its experience and expertise in building port community systems to South Africa,” a spokesman for PSA said. The Portnet port community system in Singapore has 7,000 users, generating nearly 69 million transactions in 2001.
