RailAmerica’s carloads down 5.2% in March
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 42 short-line railroads operating on about 7,800 track miles in the United States and Canada, said its freight carloads dropped 5.2 percent in March to 111,915, compared to 118,115 a year ago.
The acquisition of the Alcoa railroads and the Fremont line in Michigan net of the impact of the sale of the San Luis and Rio Grande Railroad and the three Alberta properties accounted for a decrease of 2,133 of the carloads, RailAmerica said.
For the year to date, RailAmerica’s total carloads were flat at 327,993 from 329,878 in the same period 2005.
