RailAmerica’s carloads up 2.3% in October
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 47 short-line railroads in the United States and Canada, said September freight carloads rose 2.3 percent to 112,360 from 109,839 in October 2004.
RailAmerica said its acquisitions of the Fremont line in Michigan and the Alcoa roads, net of the impact of the sale of the Arizona Eastern Railway in 2004, accounted for 2,206 of the carload increase.
For the year to date, RailAmerica’s total carloads increased 5.7 percent to 1.08 million from 1.03 million in the same 10-month period last year.
RailAmerica operates about 8,900 track miles in the United States and Canada.
