RailAmerica’s February carloads down 2.8%
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 43 short-line railroads in the United States and Canada, said its freight carloads dropped 2.8 percent in February to 103,249 from 106,256 in the same month 2005.
The acquisition of the Alcoa railroads and the Fremont line in Michigan net of the impact of the sale of the San Luis and Rio Grande Railroad and the three Alberta properties accounted for a decrease of 1,772 of the carloads, RailAmerica said.
After the first two months of the year, RailAmerica’s total carloads increased 2 percent to 216,078 from 211,763 in 2005.
