Rakkenes joins board of Royal P&O Nedlloyd

Olav Rakkenes, the former high-profile president and chief executive officer of Atlantic Container Line, will join the board of directors of Royal P&O Nedlloyd, subject to approval of shareholders.

Under a plan announced Friday by Royal P&O Nedlloyd, Rakkenes and Louk Ligthart, a Dutch financial executive, will be independent, non-executive directors on the board of the Dutch stock market-listed shipping line, and Rutger van Slobbe will become an executive director on its board of directors. Van Slobbe is director of trades and logistics of P&O Nedlloyd, the operating company of Royal P&O Nedlloyd.

An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders will be held Nov. 11 to propose the appointment of the three board directors.

“Olav, Louk and Rutger will bring strength and substantial experience to the board,” said Andrew Land, chairman of Royal P&O Nedlloyd.

Rakkenes, who is also on the board of other shipping companies, has remained the chairman of the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement after stepping down as CEO of Atlantic Container Line.
