Rakkenes returns to lead Finnlines during search for new boss
Olav Rakkenes, former president and chief executive officer of Atlantic Container Line and non-executive director of Royal P&O Nedlloyd, has agreed to become CEO of Finnlines on a temporary basis.
The Scandinavian roll-on/roll-off operator is searching for a new boss after Antti Lagerroos resigned in February after almost 17 years at the Helsinki-based company. Lagerroos is acting as advisor to the Finnlines board of directors until Aug. 31.
Italy’s Grimaldi Group is the majority owner of Finnlines as well as parent company of ACL.
Rakkenes, one of the founders of the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement and a current member of the Brussels-based carrier lobby group, the European Liner Affairs Association, quit ACL in 2002 when Grimaldi took it over. He took the non-executive role at Royal P&O Nedlloyd in late 2004, just less than 12 months before it was bought out by A.P. Moller-Maersk at the end of 2005.
