Record tonnage transits Panama Canal
A record daily tonnage of ships transited the Panama Canal in February, the Panama Canal Authority reported Monday.
This February a record 786,400 Panama Canal/universal measurement system tons transited the waterway each day on average. This broke the November 2004 record of an average 778,200 tons per day.
In the fourth quarter of 2004, total vessel tonnage using the canal increased 5.1 percent to 70 million Panama Canal/universal measurement system tons.
