Rhenus Warehousing Solutions is expanding warehousing space at three of its sites in Germany this year in response to sustained growth in the e-commerce sector and the associated industries and companies, Rhenus said Monday.
Expansion will occur at the company’s sites in Eisenach, Hamburg-Harburg and Dortmund.
The overall area at the Eisenach site will be expanded by 20,000 square meters to a total of 60,000 square meters by the end of November.
Storage space at the Dortmund site will be expanded by nearly 34,000 square meters, enabling the total area to increase to about 84,000 square meters. The building work started in February and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the Hamburg-Harburg site is being expanded by 21,000 square meters to provide 52,500 square meters of space. Expansion at this site should be completed by this summer.
The Rhenus Group’s business areas include contract logistics, freight logistics, port logistics and public transport.
In March, the German third-party logistics provider acquired a 40 percent shareholding in ocean vessel owner and manager ARKON Shipping GmbH & Co. KG., and under the share purchase agreement, the firms are establishing a joint investment company called Rhenus-ARKON-Shipinvest GmbH & Co. KG to finance further expansion of ARKON’s commercial managed vessel fleet.
