ROADWAY, REIMER CERTIFIED FOR CANADA CUSTOMS SELF ASSESSMENT

Roadway Express Inc. and its Canadian subsidiary, Reimer Express Lines Ltd., have received approval from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency to participate in the Customs Self Assessment (CSA) initiative implemented Dec. 3.

Customs Self Assessment is part of the Customs Blueprint introduced by Canada Customs to streamline processes for low-risk shipments moving into Canada. Initially, only U.S-originated goods will be eligible for the CSA program, Roadway said. The Canadian importer, the transportation company and the driver also must be CSA-certified. All of Roadway’s international drivers have applied for and have begun receiving their Commercial Driver Registration Program cards issued to CSA-approved drivers.

“CSA certification verifies our commitment to the highest levels of customs compliance, while providing a standard of excellence for customer service in international transportation,” said Bob Carr, vice president of International business for Roadway Express.

“As the CSA program rolls out, we are ready to offer this service to our customers that are also certified, in addition to the various other clearance options that they have,” said Clayton Gording, vice president of operations for Reimer Express Lines Ltd.
