Romania buys mobile container screening systems

The Romanian Ministry of Customs has ordered a third mobile gamma ray container screening system valued at almost $2 million from Rapiscan Security Products Inc., company spokesman Sanjay Sabnani said. Rapiscan expects to deliver the system in early 2004.

Rapiscan, a subsidiary of Hawthorne, Calif.-based OSI Systems Inc., sold Romanian Customs two gamma radiation detection systems last year for $3.9 million.

The gamma ray inspection system is designed to penetrate and provide images of the contents and interior structures of trucks, cargo containers and passenger vehicles to prevent smuggling of contraband and explosives.
